A few months ago, I tried my first One Love Organics product: the Vitamin B Enzyme Cleansing Oil. It not only smelled like a heavenly bouquet of pineapples, but worked to get rid of all makeup and reside on my skin without causing a single breakout. So surprised and impressed, I knew I needed to try more. Next I took the Gardenia + Tea Antioxidant Body Serum for a spin. Cutely packaged in a handy spray bottle, it added just the right amount of moisture. I instantly fell in love. After my two successful trials, I went crazy and tested a few more products in the line and became absolutely HOOKED. Now my bathroom counters are covered in One Love Organics products.
Inspired by my new beauty obsession, I did a little research to learn more about the Georgia-based line. I soon discovered its secret weapon – its chic and seasoned brand ambassador, Elizabeth Dehn. Blogger by day (her blog Beauty Bets is honest, witty, and always spot on) and One Love Organics beauty partner by night, Elizabeth knows great skin. She believes that “ingredients matter, and taking care of your skin and your spirit isn’t a luxury, but essential to total well-being.” Just like me, Elizabeth is obsessed with perfectly hydrated, dewy skin and understands that prevention through proper moisture is the key to anti-aging. She insists that perfect skin is achievable for all of us if we choose our products with care.
I had the pleasure of speaking with the busy-as-can-be Elizabeth Dehn about her collaboration with One Love. She even gave me a little refresher on why organic skincare is so important and what it really means. She also spilled about her own flawless skin, sharing the best tips and tricks for a glowing complexion. Get ready, girls. You’re about to learn from the best.
Annie: What inspired the creation of One Love Organics and how did you get involved?
Elizabeth: One Love was founded by Suzanne LeRoux who has a deep passion for creating beautiful products and a knack for sourcing the most incredible, effective ingredients. We make all of our products on Saint Simons Island, Georgia in one of only 10 ECOCERT-certified facilities in the country. Suzanne and I became friends when I started writing about One Love Organics products on Beauty Bets. We just clicked, and could talk beauty for hours. The idea to collaborate was Suzanne’s—she is always ahead of her time—and it grew from an idea for one product to a full, permanent line. It’s a dream come true for me to get to make the products I’ve always wanted on my own vanity. Now I have the perfect partner with whom to do so.
Annie: Some people are hesitant to try organic products. They often worry about their efficacy or their high price. What would you say to customers to change their mind about going organic?
Elizabeth: Plants are so powerful! Think about what aloe can do for a burn. They’re the original medicine. They’re also more compatible with your skin than any chemicals because your skin recognizes them and responds accordingly. We are ECOCERT certified which means all of our plant-based ingredients have to be at least 95 % organic. It also means they’re incredibly potent. We went through an intensive certification process to ensure that everything we make is truly effective and good for your skin. That’s why we got into this business – we saw a need for better beauty.
Annie: Tell me a little about what drives the line and makes it unique. How does your brand standout among other organic beauty brands?
Elizabeth: In addition to following ECOCERT standards, we are really proud of our waterless formulas. So many products contain cheap fillers that do nothing for the skin. We only use active ingredients that add value and efficacy. Customers can’t live without our Vitamin B Cleansing Oil and Vitamin C Brightening Facial Serum for a reason: they really do change your skin. I’m so proud of our mission at One Love. We believe in the power of the beauty ritual to renew, relax, and transform. We trust in the healing power of plants, and we embrace the simplicity and the knowledge that you can achieve more with less—in skincare and in life!
Annie: What are some of the main ingredients in your organic beauty products?
Elizabeth: Organic plant oils are at the core of our formulas. We recently added value to our new, upgraded formulas with clinical strength levels of proven ingredients to boost our formulas’ efficacy. For example, we boosted the new Vitamin C Facial Brightening Serum with an extract of hops, a botanical active proven to increase luminosity for a more radiant, even-toned complexion. We also added organic acerola to our plant-powered C Complex.
Annie: What are the three best One Love Organics products that you absolutely can’t live without? Which product(s) would you suggest for those new to the organic beauty scene?
Elizabeth: That’s like picking a favorite child! I really do use everything but couldn’t live without the Vitamin C Serum, Vitamin B Cleansing Oil and Vitamin E Eye Balm, which was our very first formula. It has almost completely wiped out my crow’s feet!
Elizabeth: I practically came out of the womb making face masks and playing with product. Self-care isn’t a luxury, it’s essential for our well being. I never feel guilty soaking in the tub or getting a massage, because if you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t share your gifts with the world. I want that for every woman, even if you just start with five minutes of meditation, a new haircut or regular manicure. Love yourself!
Annie: You have absolutely gorgeous skin. Tell me a little bit about your routine and the products that give you that magnificent glow!
Elizabeth: It’s the One Love Organics! I do have a fairly rigorous skincare routine. It’s a bit embarrassing. I love to layer serums, I do masks and peels 2-3 times a week, and I get facials regularly. Sun protection and a hat are essential. Also, hot yoga. I swear sweat is the ultimate facial. The only thing missing from my routine is more sleep, which really makes a noticeable difference.
Annie: Do you have a favorite face mask or treatment that you swear by?
Annie: In your opinion, what is the best way to get the most out of the products you put on your skin? In what order to you layer your skincare?
Elizabeth: Lightest to heaviest in terms of consistency. After cleansing, I spritz on our Vitamin D Moisture Mist to protect and prep skin to better absorb our Vitamin C serum. I don’t usually wear a face cream because oils are so moisturizing, but if I need a boost I’ll first layer on a hydrating serum like Morning Glory. Finally, a physical sunblock. I really like Coola’s.
Annie: Speaking of the office, how did you get your start as a blogger and editor? What advice do you have for girls out there who want a similar career?
Elizabeth: A little bit of luck and a lot of stepping stones. I interned at a fashion magazine in London in college and fell in love with retail, so I actually got my start in merchandising for Target. That experience proved to pair perfectly with my communications background and landed me in a lifestyle editor role at multiple magazines. I love all product and packaging and telling the stories of the people behind them. Beauty emerged as my favorite topic so I started the blog as a creative outlet. Fortunately, social media was hitting its stride and that’s what I credit with building a readership. I also spend a ton of time on Pinterest, which is like crack, and has broadened that reach. My advice is to just start. Whether it’s writing for someone else or grabbing a WordPress template, just do it. And talk to people about your dreams and goals! When you let them manifest, you’ll be amazed at how many people step up to help if they know what you’re hoping to accomplish.
Annie: Finally, pretend you’re stranded on a desert island with only 5 of your favorite beauty products. What are they?
Elizabeth: All I’d be worried about is the sun! Boring!
