This weekend, I celebrated a friend’s birthday at a “Day of the Dead” themed soiree at a Mexican restaurant in New York’s Lower East Side. Funny enough, I actually dressed up as Day of the Dead last Halloween, so I felt like I needed to try something else. I decided to go as Frida Kahlo.

One of Frida’s key features, aside from the famous unibrow, was her matte red lip. Well in real life, I am SO not a red lip girl, but I have gotten the BEST tips from some of my chic, rouge lip loving girls here. I prefer something plumping, pinky or skin colored. But in order to truly play the part, I needed to find a red that was striking enough, yet something that made me still feel pretty. Because, let’s be honest, just because we are dressing up, doesn’t mean we still shouldn’t feel and look gorg.

Brat Pack is an ultra pigmented, yet feather-light lipstick that delivers the drama and intensity of matte without compromising comfort. The way this lipstick glides weightlessly onto your lips needs to be experienced to be believed! It is also made with peppermint oil, which gives the most delicious subtle scent. Armani’s Lip Maestro is a glossy stain that feels like rabbit ears to the lips. It applies like a gloss and is super matte and pigmented like a stain.

To get this look, start by blotting Lipstick Queen Brat Pack onto your upper and lower lips. Don’t drag the color, because you don’t want too much to come out at first. Then lightly fill in the color along the outline of your lips. Next, grab Armani and lightly apply the color on the inner lip area, almost like a popsicle stained lip. Apply more if necessary, and blot if the color is too bright.

This red lip is my newest obsession.
