'70s Beauty Redux: Smooth Hair, Soft Eyes & Good Vibes

The ‘70s were a time of good movies, good music and even better style. Flowing silhouettes, fringe, funky prints and flared denim reigned supreme under the direction of laid-back hippie vibes. Let us not forget the beauty. Icons like Joni Mitchell, Cher and Marcia Brady popularized smooth, easygoing locks parted down the center. Clean skin, rosy cheeks and understated eyes made the already amazing look simply unforgettable.

If you’ve been paying attention to the fashion world lately, you’ve probably noticed that beauty mavens everywhere are obsessing over reliving the ‘70s glory days. Brands like Chloe, Carven and Stella McCartney are all getting in on the revival. The best part is you can too in a few simple steps. Follow my guide and you’ll be well on your way to channeling your inner ‘70s goddess. You can even shop my favorite ’70s inspired sweaters below!

Skin: clean and glowing

First, prep the skin with hydrating products. Before the shoot I used Tata Harper’s Resurfacing Mask to make my skin dewy and supple. After concealing with Onomie’s Bright Concealing Elixir, I applied a touch of Tata Harper’s Lip to Cheek Tint in Very Vivacious and Benefit’s High Beam highlighter. To finish, I dusted a thin layer of Kevin Aucoin Beauty ‘The Gossamer’ Loose Powder with iridescent flecks to lock in the glow.

Eyes: nuanced and natural

I used Dior’s 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in Ambre Nuit and MAC Studio Eye Gloss to create a soft, bedroom eye look with a little shine. Starting with a nude base, I applied shades of cream, dusty pink and hazelnut brown for a natural blend of color. I topped the eyeshadow off with a touch of gloss.

Hair: straight, sleek and center parted

This hair look was extremely easy to create. I simply parted my hair in the middle, blow dried as usual and tamed flyaways to give it a smooth finish. I recommend using Philip B Oud Royal Thermal Protection Spray before using heat and Oribe Supershine Moisturizing Cream to sculpt the hair and manage flyaways.
