INTRODUCING my star Editor Lexi Tollefsen’s second guest post for She’s in the Glow, What’s In The Bag – a new monthly series she came up with! She isn’t moonlighting as a student at Princeton (the #1 school in America, ah!) for nothing. Congrats Lexi! X

Lexi: Ah, September. It’s finally time to celebrate one of the most exciting months for us beauty lovers. Lipsticks and polishes are getting darker (I’ve been impatiently waiting to rock a deep purple lip), fragrances are deeper and more intense, and Fashion Week’s good vibes have left us all feeling inspired. There’s only one problem (for us college girls, of course): school is back in session. Summer’s bliss is behind us, and homework is our new best friend.

When I get back in the campus groove, I always feel like I have less time to focus on my beauty routine. My schedule gets so crowded with lectures and meetings that I somehow forget to take care of my skin or take some risks on the makeup front. Anyone else in the same boat? I’ve decided to make a few changes this year before things get too out of hand. I declare this academic year the year of chic speed beauty that will keep you looking gorgeous even when it seems like you don’t have time to sleep.

Let’s see what’s in the bag this September!

1. Lipstick Queen Chinatown Lip Pencil Gloss-On-The-Go, Thriller Scarlet Red, $22 // e.l.f. Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick, Movie Star Red, $2

Ever since Annie introduced me to the Aussie power of Lipstick Queen, I can’t get enough! This smooth, multi-functional lip pencil is the perfect way to elevate your look on the go. Plus, it’s incredibly soft! It goes on like a dream. I love pulling this baby out on my way to class. It gives me just the right amount of color and moisture when I’m frantically running around campus.

Although Lipstick Queen is the ultimate when it comes to of-the-moment lip color, sometimes a college girl doesn’t have $20 to spend on lipstick. Never fear. e.l.f.’s alternative is just as fab. Loaded with Jojoba, Soybean and Vitamin E ingredients, this lip gloss is sure to keep your pout pretty.

2. Amore Pacific Cleansing Tissues, $40 // Botanics All Brightening Cleansing Face Wipes, $6.99

Every busy girl needs a quick (and healthy) face cleanser go-to for those nights when your bed is far more tempting than your bathroom. While the Amore Pacific tissues are the luxurious choice, I can’t get over my recent purchase from the Target beauty aisle: Botanics All Brightening Cleansing Face Wipes. Made from the beneficial elements of hibiscus flowers, these wipes are powerful enough to remove even the toughest waterproof makeup. I keep a pack of these on my dresser in my dorm room for late night impurity removal, or in my book bag for midday touch-ups. I think it’s safe to say that these wipes take my flower obsession to a whole new level.

3. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20, Nude, $43 // Pur Minerals Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20, Light, $34

Tinted moisturizer is the perfect quick and easy makeup solution for the girl on the go. It will give your face a boost of color and moisture—two things that are essential after an all-nighter or a late night out with friends. Both of these moisturizers also come with broad spectrum SPF that will keep your skin looking youthful and healthy.

4. Dolce & Gabbana Smooth Eye Colour Quad, Desert, $67 // , $3.99

This fall is all about the eyes. Make sure yours are looking absolutely gorgeous by picking up a new shadow palette. Now I must admit, I’ve always considered myself a Chanel Beauty girl. But after recently sampling Dolce & Gabbana’s makeup line, I think I’ll have to start stepping outside the box more often! D&G’s Eye Colour Quad in Desert comes packed with four shades that are perfect for any eye color. Day or night, these colors will make your eyes the center of attention.

How to apply, you ask? Look no further than the advice of badass British makeup artist Pat McGrath: “As a general rule, apply the darkest shades close to the lash line and the outer half of the eye. Work on both eyes simultaneously for a more symmetrical application. To maximize the wear and visibility of a shadow, apply it over a matching pencil.”

5. Chanel Crayon Sourcils Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil, No. 30 Brun Naturel, $29 //Rimmel London Professional Eyebrow Pencil, No. 002 Hazel, $3.99

Oh, Chanel. You’re my one and only love… when I can afford you! Bold brows are so key this season and are the easiest trend to pull off with the right brow pencil, of course. While Chanel has a special place in my heart, I have been a lover of Rimmel London’s Professional Eyebrow Pencil for years. As you learned in my last post, I am addicted to changing my hair color. With each change always comes a new brow pencil color, so you will often find me making a quick trip to CVS to pick up a new Rimmel London brow pencil. The color always goes on smoothly and isn’t a pain to remove at the end of the day. It even comes with a eyebrow brush so you can sculpt before you define. It’s one of my favorite beauty secrets.

So there you have it! No matter how busy September gets, you’ll be completely prepared with your speed beauty kit.
