Today is the first day of spring, although here in New York, it certainly doesn’t feel like it. I’m officially over this never-ending winter that is clearly having some effect on my standard manicure polish – I can’t seem to move away from black (Essie Licorice). When did my nails get so boring? Sure, sure black and nude go with everything, but I’ve decided that it’s time to change things up. In honor of the first day of what is supposed to be the most blissfully pleasant and wonderful season, I’m putting an end to the black and opting for something bright and cheerful instead!
If you’ve been paying attention to the shows, you would’ve suspected that this spring season would have been filled with the same crazy nail art that graced the runways back in 2013. But this year is a little different. While nail art is certainly not dead, it did take a back seat to trends that are more wearable. I personally loved the Easter colored pinks, the metallics (like at 3.1 Phillip Lim), the updated French manis (Wes Gordon), the subtle ombre, the glitter and the “moon manis” with a clear base.
Regardless of the trend, this season’s nail colors are meant to be FUN, a form of self-expression. So let’s get to it. This is my rundown of the TOP nail polishes for spring 2014 that you need to know about. These will make going to the nail salon that much more fun.
