New Year's Eve Makeup: The Glossy Eye Vampy Lip Combo

Girls, we’ve got five days until New Year’s Eve. Dear LORD! It’s time to get thinking about what makeup essentials we’ll need for the big night. This New Year’s Eve, why not dive full force into one of my all time favorite makeup trends: the glossy eye (a la Balenciaga). It just so happens that MAC Pro Studio Eye Gloss is everything and absolutely perfect for NYE. You can still get it now if you order online! Remember a few weeks ago when I posted the tutorial on how to get the most bada** glossy eye thanks to makeup pro Tom Pecheux at Sophie Theallet? Well, he used MAC’s Pro product, which I happen to love. It’s soooo good.

I suggest you go one of two ways. Either go with a clearish glossy eye using something like Mac’s Pearl Varnish (a translucent gloss with a shimmery finish) OR go with a dramatic blackish glossy eye, using something like Mac’s Noticeably Noir (a black gloss with a touch of pearl). Oh, and the dark lip is the perfect compliment. So this is how YOU, pretty girl, can get the Daria Werbowy look straight from the Balenciaga campaign:

Step 1: After you have applied foundation and under eye concealer, move on to the eye. I like to apply Mac’s Painterly Paint Pot to create a nice and even blank canvas for the eyes. The product is just great and it does what it is supposed to do – keep things in place! I apply using a domed shaped brush and blend all around the eyelid and a little below the eye (basically where you are going to apply the gloss).

Step 2: Gently tap your gloss using your ring finger. Start by applying it in the center of the lid, close to your lashes but without touching them. Blend the product from your lash line upwards and out, stopping before you reach the crease of the eye. For a glossier lid, grab more product and tap lightly over the product closer to your lash line.

Step 3: If you’re dying to wear eyeliner in addition to the gloss, apply it on the inside of your lashes instead of on top of the lid. This will keep things from going all over the place. Pair it with a perfectly clean skin and a dark lip, like NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Train Bleu (the prettiest and even a fav of Danielle Snyder!), for a sultry-chic look.

Note to self: One thing to note before going gloss, it doesn’t last for 10 hours, so you might want to bring the gloss out with you, and touch it up throughout the night.
