When it comes to evening makeup, I always seem to gravitate to a bold lip and a sleek glossy eye. The pairing is clean, simple and looks great in photos. It also follows my principle makeup rule, which is to add color and drama to just one element of the face — the eye or the lip. Going all out on both is a little overkill.
Now while I usually go with color on the lips, there is a downside to bright lipstick: always having to be careful while eating a drinking. Every time I take a sip of champagne or try a bite of something delicious, a little bit of my perfect lip fades away. By the end of the night, I usually head to the bathroom to reapply or just give up and replace the color with a gloss.
To avoid this very annoying situation, I’ve decided to ditch my classic red lip for something a little more food-friendly for New Year’s Eve. Inspired by Tom Ford’s gorgeously pigmented collection, I thought why not create a dark navy eye? This is how you can get the look.
Use hydrating skincare to create a glowing base.
I used a winning combo of SK-II Facial Treatment Mask, SK-II Mid-Day Essence and Chantecaille Rose de Mai Cream to give my skin a boost of hydration. I finished with the tiniest bit of my new favorite eye cream by Arcona for a touch of luminosity.

I used Le Metier de Beauty Anti-Aging Complex as a sheer foundation, RMS Beauty “Un” Cover Up in Shade 2 under my eyes and around my nose, RMS Living Luminizer and the tiniest bit of Tata Harper Lip and Cheek Tint in Very Sweet for a little flush of color. To make everything not so shiny, I dusted my face with RMS “Un” Powder in translucent. I then spritzed my whole face one more time, with a bit of Sk-II Mid-Day Essence which basically helped all the makeup set.
Blend cream and powder shadow for a long-lasting eyeshadow look.
Believe it or not, creating this dramatic eye was super easy. For the eyeshadow I used the Tom Ford Cream and Powder Eye Color in Night Sky. It’s a double-decker jar made of a luminous cream and powder shadow. Obviously the shadows can be worn alone or together, but for New Years, I’m going to apply the cream first and the powder last. They work together to create a long-wearing, non-creasing color that’ll last all night. After blending the cream and powder on the eyelids, extending the color to the outer corners of the eye, I used Guerlain’s new liner in Navy near the lash line and on the waterline on the inside of my eyelids. On my lashes, I used Gucci mascara, which is really great.
Balance the bold color on the eyes with subtle lip.
On my lips I used Tom Ford’s new First Kiss, which is the perfect soft pink. It goes beautifully with a dramatic eye.
