7 Products to Help You Achieve Tropical Hydration (Even in the Dead of Winter)

I know it sounds crazy, but I absolutely love winter. I find the air so crisp and clean feeling, and love when the sun shines on pearly white snow. The fashion and beauty worlds are also always buzzing during winter, as Fashion Week is on everyone’s minds. But although I can’t get enough of chilly temperatures and layering (shopping for my winter coat every year puts me in heaven!), I can’t deny that with winter comes extreme dryness. Dryness is the archenemy of glowing, hydrated skin, which makes us look older, more tired, and simply not as vibrant.

Last week I took a pre-Fashion Week trip to Panama, where it was most certainly not cold. With the temperature anywhere between 80 and 95 degrees at 80 percent humidity, my skin’s winter damage was magically undone. The skin on my face, hands and body felt softer and more hydrated, which was such a nice change. I didn’t find myself needing the heavy creams and lotions I had been using back in the States. My skin was naturally moisturized and glowing all day long. Sounds amazing, right?

When I returned home, I was determined to keep my skin looking and feeling as good as it did in Panama. Unfortunately the moisture didn’t follow me from the beach back to snowy Princeton, so I needed the help of a few heavy-duty products to keep things dewy. Since winter dryness spares no one, I decided to make a list of all of my favorite hydrating essentials to share. These babies have kept my skin Panama pretty despite the icy February weather.

Tata Harper’s Rebuilding Moisturizer – Thanks to Annie’s undying love for all things Tata, I finally decided to incorporate some of her products into my own routine. I am so into the Rebuilding Moisturizer, because it’s lightweight and non-greasy, but still so hydrating. Plus, it’s all natural and non-toxic, which takes it to the next level. I like using this during the day before applying my makeup.

La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream – If you need something a little thicker for the nighttime, look no further than La Mer. While their cult classic Crème De La Mer Moisturizing Cream is often the most talked about – it is no doubt the best, most luxurious heavy heavy cream – I am partial to their Moisturizing Soft Cream. It’s a little lighter, but just as effective. I get so many compliments on my skin when I use it. So worth the price.

Earth Tu Face Skin Stick – While my face stayed hydrated throughout the entire day in Panama, my skin tends to feel dry midday in Princeton, no matter how heavy the cream is I applied in the morning. I love the Earth Tu Face Skin Stick because it allows me to apply a little moisture to my skin when I’m out and about. When your skin is thirsty, swipe a little on your cheeks and T-zone as needed throughout the day. It absorbs quickly and gives you results instantly. It also doubles as a lip balm! (More on why this brand rocks here.)

Ilia Lip Conditioner, Balmy Days – I am a huge fan of Ilia. Natural and organic is the way to go, especially with products you apply often.  This lip balm is perfect for all day application and all day moisture. Nourishing Vitamin E and Coco Butter hydrate, while Jasmine and Orange essential oils provide a super delicate and feminine scent.

Ren Moroccan Rose Otto Firming Crème Riche – Every girl needs a heavy duty body cream for locking in post-shower or bath moisture. Ren is one of my new favorite brands, so this cream was an obvious choice. It’s so easy to forget about the skin on your arms, legs, stomach, hands, and décolletage, as the face normally gets the most attention. This cream provides softness in minutes, and will make you wonder why you haven’t been using body cream for years.

Lavett & Chin Coconut Moisturizing Facial Mist – Facial mists are my new obsession. Designed to stabilize the PH balance of your skin, facial sprays prepare your skin for receiving moisture. Many of us don’t know that most lotions and creams don’t create moisture, but simply lock it in. Facial mists provide the moisture needed for your creams to work the way they’re supposed to. I use Lavett & Chin’s after I’ve washed my face and before I apply my cream. It’s also a great way to prep your face for makeup application. Formulated with coconut, organic Bulgarian Rosewater and honey, this mist is sure to make you feel like you just left the beach.

Byredo La Tulipe Hand Cream – Annie and I are both unapologetic fan girls of Byredo. Not only are their candles and fragrances to die for, their hand creams are out of this world. I love how unique the scents are, and how soft the products feel. I love La Tuilipe because it’s got a light, springy feel to the smell. I’ve tried a lot of hand creams, and it’s difficult to find one that works quickly, is non-greasy, and locks in moisture for hours. This is a must have.
