Its all about “individual beauty,” said Mac Cosmetics makeup artist James Kaliardos backstage at the Diane Von Furstenberg Spring 2014 show. Its about, “someone who has their own beauty. There is a very diverse casting.” So chic, right? Kaliardos also mentions that Diane does a great job of representing “every type of nationality,” referencing the New York Times article Fashion’s Blind Spot. With a show-stopping lineup that included Karen Elson, Liu Wen, Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss and a surprise (bada%*!!) appearance by Naomi Campbell, Diane certainly knows what’s up.

The look was totally natural, and what I loved most was that only CREAMY and liquid products were used on the face – no powders! I love this! So over the matte look. “It’s all about the little details…the girl is fresh from vacation in the Hamptons, so she doesn’t need makeup,” said James. Black eye liner was used but only in the inner lashes. Cream blush was applied high on the cheekbones, and Mac’s newest BB Cream (BB yet again!) was used to create a light and reflective skintone. The lipgloss color depended on the girl’s skin color. It seems as though these models were treated as individuals, not just robots. They were involved in the entire beauty process. The colors used were customized based on each model’s unique look. Sounds incredible, I know. It totally was.

As for the hair side of things, Orlando Pita used Biosilk products to create clean, effortless waves. I loved the middle part again, which was one of my favorite trends from Fall. Pita tells me that Diane was inspired by the models on her go-sees. They all walked in with this shiny and healthy hair. So, she went for a clean, smooth and most importantly, unstructured look for her show.

Now, back to makeup. Since we’re all dying to look like a DVF girl, here’s how to  get the Mac Look:

The makeup artists cleverly blended Mineral Charged Water Face and Body Lotion into skin with a 190 foundation brush to instantly hydrate and replenish, leaving skin soft, supple and ready for action.

Next, Mineralize Charged Water Moisture Eye Cream was applied around the eyes to hydrate and add a radiant touch to the skin. Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm Spf 35 was applied with a 190 foundation brush to even and tone skin. Then, N7 Face & Body Foundation was blended through the hairline and over cheekbones with a 190 foundation brush to add warmth and lightly contour.

To touch up remaining blemishes, Pro Correct and Conceal Palette was used. Prep + Prime Translucent Finishing Powder was loosely swept through the centre of the face to set and polish. Casual colour (available spring/summer 2014) was blended over the upper cheekbones and through the temples to finish.

Shadow was blended together and wrapped around the upper and lower lashlines. M·a·c Pro Black Black Chromaline was applied through the upper lash bed with a 212 flat definer brush to add a soft finish. Haute & Naughty Too Black Mascara was applied to the lashes to separate and strengthen before the models hit the catwalk. After the mascara treatment, Omega Eye Shadow was swept through the brow and down the inner eye for a slight contour.

And who can forget the brows? A clear brow set was used to comb through the brows to add boldness and a touch of elegance.

As for the lips, makeup artists covered the lips in a soft wash of Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm SPF 35 to prepare the lip for soft color. Lips Lovingly Yours Mineralize Lipgloss (available spring/summer 2014) was then applied with a 316 lip brush for added dimension and shine.

Diane knows best.
