Glow Guide: April 2014

April is a very exciting time. The weather feels oh-so-good, striking that perfect balance between not too hot and not too cold. Sadly for us New Yorkers, we only experience these pleasant temperatures for a short time, so we must take advantage of it while we can. Afternoon cocktails become a mandatory activity and drinking rosé becomes my favorite sport. My friend Caitlin brilliantly labeled the time between 4 and 6pm “terrace time,” because the light is just amazing, making rosé drinking that much dreamier. Bare legs and shorts skirts are paired with lightweight jackets and soft sweaters and sunnies are back in full effect. It’s easily my favorite time of the year.

Beauty brands also use this time of year to roll out their spring and summer lines, which means I can finally retire my classic black mani and start rocking something lighter and fresher.  This month also officially marks the launch my new monthly series, “Glow Guide,” where I will divulge the top beauty finds that are on my radar and that I truly love and use at this very moment. So many samples come across my desk (aka my parents’ hand-me-down dining room table), and these are the items that I think are very special and worth looking into. So yippee for spring, terrace time and all the beauty that surrounds each and every one of us! This is my April Glow Guide.

Tom Ford ‘Summer’ Lip Color Shimmer Limited Edition Moonlight and Solar Gold – WOW. Speechless. I spotted these lip colors, and was blown away. Intended to highlight and compliment the lips, either alone or on top of an existing lip color, they can also be used as highlighters for the face and décolletage.

Yves Saint Laurent Gloss Volupté, Fuchsia Vermeil – This rosy fuchsia lip gloss with a tiny bit of golden shimmer is to die for. No stickiness here. This whole gloss collection launched before the holidays, but the colors are all spectacular and the formulas so perfect. I want them all. They are also meant to be layered.

Laura Mercier Lip Glacé, Azalea – This bubblegum pink is no kidding the BEST pink I have tried in forever. Every time I am wearing it, my friends ask, “What are you wearing? Can I try that?”

Byredo Bal D’Afrique Roll-on Oil – OK so if you have not smelled Byredo Fragrances, please do. These new roll-ons are perfect for traveling and nights out.

Kérastase Initialiste – This serum literally transforms hair in a matter of days by strengthening damaged hair and creating shine, softness and substance. I love this!

Estelle & Thild Age Control Serum / Repairing Oil Complex – My NEWEST skincare love. I recently became involved in this Stockholm based line through my friend Aimee. After being picked up by Net-A-Porter, it’s causing quite a buzz here in the US.

By Terry Cellularose Blush Glaće – Spring has sprung, so rock pretty pink cheeks. You must try this cute pinky stain.

Verso Super Eye Serum – I recently asked my dermatologist how to get rid of fine lines and puffiness under the eye. Her suggestion – retinol. Verso’s retinol based formula is so damn good. Now, I’ve tried many eye creams over the years, but this is my first eye serum, and I have noticed a dramatic difference and it must be from the retinol. Be careful, though. When using retinol, you can’t get any sun and can’t be preggers. Be sure to read the directions.

Yves Saint Laurent Rose Scabiosa – This is the perfect pink polish and is a part of YSL’s newest Spring collection.

– Launched just in time for Mother’s Day, this limited edition design is quite cute, no? There is a reason that this pink lotion has maintained its cult classic status for the past 60 years. My plan is to lather it on my hands, neck and chest every night before bed. You should too.
