The Best 3 Oils for Your Hair

I can’t help but feel inspired by Fall 13’s “wet look,” seen on hair everywhere from Oscar, Marni and Missoni to Alberta Ferretti, Roberto Cavalli and Prada. While this look is much easier to achieve in the summer, while rocking the post-pool ponytail or that fresh out of the ocean mermaid look, I thought about how to make this style relevant and wearable for fall.

So is it even possible to pull off a summer staple as the weather gets cooler and we leave the sandy beaches for the city streets? Most definitely, yes. The key here is to wear your hair back. Take, for example, Alexander Wang. The hair was pulled into a sleek updo with a stick-straight ponytail and drenched in shine. Wet, yet totally modern and appropriate for city life.

In order to achieve this “wet” updo, look no further than your trusty hair oil to create damp texture with multidimensional glossiness. Apply a few drops from midshaft to ends before blowdrying normally. Once your locks are dry, add a few more drops, this time starting at the root. Make sure the roots get the least amount of oil, leaving the majority for your ends.

These are my top three oils for this fall:

Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser Oil – My newest obsession. It can be used anytime, to soften, smooth and reduce frizz, tame flyaways, detangle and strengthen, preventing  against breakage. I like to apply from midshaft to ends before blowdrying, and then again on dry ends and flyaways as needed. My hair instantly looks and feels healthier. It also contains UVA/UVB filters and offers heat styling protection.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Usage Dry Oil – This French cult classic is a unique combination of precious plant oils and Vitamin E. These ingredients nourish, repair and soften not only your hair, but your face and body in one single step. Great for traveling, this lovely oil is oh so multi-functional! Mix a few drops of dry oil into the palm of your hand then gently tousle your hair for a natural result. Use to tame frizzy hair and smooth ends.

Rodin Luxury Hair Oil – One word: unbeatable. This blend of eight essential oils leaves hair healthier, more lustrous and residue free. This elegant (prettier than most perfumes) and totally addicting smell is like heaven in a bottle. It’s just rich. When my hair is super dry, I apply the tiniest bit (keep in mind, it’s very concentrated!) to the ends before and after blowdrying.

Bring it on fall.
